Abstract
In this presentation, I will first give an overview of the process control and monitoring research being carried out at UC Davis. Then, I will focus on a recent study where we use multiple linear models to describe a nonlinear system and develop a control strategy that takes advantage of this representation. I will give an example of a pH neutralization system that uses local H? controllers to achieve desired stability and performance characteristics. One significant issue in multi-linear control design is the number of models required for a satisfactory result. The gap metric provides an insight into the choice of the number of models and this concept will again be illustrated by an experimental study of the pH neutralization system.
