Abstract

The objective of this talk is to present analysis and design methods for polynomial control systems using dissipation inequalities and recently developed sum of squares techniques. Polynomial control systems are nonlinear control systems with polynomial nonlinearities. This class of control systems appears in a wide range of applications, e.g. chemical engineering, mechatronics, systems biology. The control-theoretic concept used for analysis and design are dissipation inequalities, which are, roughly spoken, generalized Lyapunov inequalities. The applied computational machinery for analysis and design purposes is the so-called sum of squares decomposition and semidefinite programming, i.e., a convex optimization problem. In particular, this talk presents results on constrained stability analysis, minimum phase analysis, feedback and observer design.

Biographical Information

Christian Ebenbauer graduated in Telematics (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) from Graz University of Technology, Austria, in 2000. Since November 2000, he has been a research assistant at the IST at the University of Stuttgart. His main research interests are in the area of nonlinear control theory, Lyapunov-based control, convex optimization.
