Abstract
The control of quantum mechanical systems
offers a paradise of new research topics linked to optimization and
nonlinear control. Here we focus on finite dimensional quantum systems,
described by finitely many coupled spin 1/2 systems. We discuss optimal
control problems for such spin systems; specifically time-optimal
control on Lie groups; characterizations of controllability and
generalizations of the numerical range.
