Einladung zum Vortrag im Kolloquium Technische Kybernetik

Impact of Plantwide Design on Control of an Industrial Distillation Column

Michael Luyben, Ph.D.

    Zeit: Freitag · 14. 3. 2003 · 11:00 Uhr
    Ort: Hörsaal V 9. 22 · Pfaffenwaldring 9 · Campus Stuttgart-Vaihingen

Abstract

This talk focuses on the control of a real industrial distillation column. Since the column sits at the center of a complex and integrated plant, many of the process control objectives and constraints arise from the requirements of the plantwide system. Both model and plant data show the effects of feed tray, control tray, control strategy, and other variables on column performance.

Biographical Information

Michael Luyben is a Consultant in the Process Dynamics & Control group of DuPont Engineering Technology. He received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering (1987) and B.S. in Chemistry (1988) from Lehigh University and his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University (1993). His current responsibilities at DuPont include dynamic simulation, operability analysis, and control strategy design for new process development projects and for operating plants (within Bio-Based Materials, Fluoroproducts, Packaging & Industrial Polymers, Nylon Intermediates, and Engineering Polymers business units). He is the coauthor of Essentials of Process Control and Plantwide Process Control, both published by McGraw-Hill.
