Abstract
Model order reduction plays a significant role in simulation, control
and optimization of large-scale dynamical systems that arise in
computational fluid dynamics, electrical circuit simulation and
structural dynamics. The aim of model reduction is to approximate
a large-scale system of differential equations by a reduced-order system that captures the main features of the original one and has
a small approximation error. In this talk we give an overview on
model order reduction techniques for linear time-invariant dynamical systems and demonstrate their performance on practical problems.
Biographical Information
Tatjana Stykel received the master's degree in mathematics from the State University of Novosibirsk in Russia in 1996 and the Ph.D. degree in mathematics from the Technical University of Berlin in 2002. After holding a one year position as PIMS post-doctoral fellow at the University of Calgary in Canada, she got back to the Technical University of Berlin in 2003 as head of the junior research group "Scientific computing" at the DFG research center MATHEON "Mathematics for key technologies". Her research interests include numerical linear algebra, differential-algebraic equations, control theory and model reduction.
