Abstract
We consider convex optimization methods for analysis of systems described by different classes of nonlinear differential equations. In particular, we show how the construction of appropriate Lyapunov-type certificates for systems described by ordinary and delay differential equations can be done using sum of squares methods and semidefinite programming. The technique is applied to examples from engineering, biology and ecology.
We then concentrate on scalable stability analysis of large scale systems, concentrating on congestion control algorithms for the Internet and synchronization problems in physics and engineering. The modeling framework we use results in an arbitrary interconnection of subsystems described by delay differential equations. In both cases we construct Lyapunov certificates so that the Lyapunov properties scale with the system size ensuring that the desirable system functionality holds for arbitrary delays and system interconnections.
