Matthias Gastel, Member of the German Bundestag (Alliance 90/The Greens), visited the Institute for Systems Theory and Automatic Control (IST) at the University of Stuttgart to learn about the current state of research in the field of autonomous micromobility. The focus was on an autonomous e-scooter that is being developed there.

The prototype can drive independently, detect obstacles, and move to charging stations. It serves the so-called “last mile” in urban mobility emission-free. It uses state-of-the-art sensor and control technology, a reaction wheel for balance, and intelligent route planning. Contactless charging technology rounds off the autonomous system.

Member of the Bundestag Gastel was impressed by the innovative power of the project.

The autonomous e-scooter is a practical example of how sustainable mobility solutions can be transferred from research to application, for example on university campuses or in urban areas. Such innovative technologies are of great importance for a climate-friendly and flexible mobility transition.

The project shows how autonomous systems can make an important contribution to efficient, safe, and user-friendly transportation in the future.
