When the scenario design is applied to a new, out-of-sample, case,\nits performance is guaranteed by a solid generalization theory which underpins the use of the\nmethod. In this talk, I shall try to give an overview of the scenario approach, including its\ntheoretical foundations. The generality of the scenario approach makes it useful across a variety\nof fields including control, identification and classification and examples will be provided to\nhighlight the versatility of the method.\n\n  \n   \n  \nBiographical Information  \n\nMarco Claudio Campi is professor of control and inductive methods at the University of Brescia,\nItaly. He is the chair of the Technical Committee IFAC on Modeling, Identification and Signal\nProcessing (MISP) and has been in various capacities on the Editorial Board of Automatica, Systems\nand Control Letters and the European Journal of Control. Marco Campi is a recipient of the "Giorgio\nQuazza" prize, and, in 2008, he received the IEEE CSS George S. Axelby outstanding paper award for\nthe article "The Scenario Approach to Robust Control Design". He has delivered plenary and\nsemi-plenary addresses at major conferences including SYSID, MTNS, and CDC. Currently he is a\ndistinguished lecturer of the Control Systems Society. Marco Campi is a Fellow of IEEE, a member of\nIFAC, and a member of SIDRA.\n\n    \n\n
