Robin Strässer, PhD student of Prof. Frank Allgöwer, has received the Best Poster Award (3rd place) for the poster "Koopman-based Data-Driven Control of Nonlinear Systems". The award has been presented at the 3rd International Conference on Data-Integrated Simulation Science that took place in Stuttgart from 4 to 6 October 2023.
Prof. Frank Allgöwer has been appointed as IFAC advisor by the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC). This distinction has been awarded to Prof. Allgöwer for his outstanding contributions to the IFAC, in particular for his leadership of the organization as president in the years 2017-2020.
Dr.-Ing. Julian Berberich has been awarded the 2023 Dr.-Klaus-Körper Prize by the International Association of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (GAMM). The award is given out annually for outstanding PhD theses in the field of applied mathematics and mechanics. The thesis was supervised by Prof. Frank Allgöwer and is entitled "Stability and robustness in data-driven predictive control"
The paper by Dr. Johannes Köhler (currently at ETH Zürich), Prof. Matthias Müller (Leibniz University Hannover) and Prof. Frank Allgöwer was selected as best Theory / Methodology related paper for the IFAC Journal of Process Control Paper Prize, for 2020-2023. The paper "Periodic optimal control of nonlinear constrained systems using economic model predictive control" was published in Journal of Process Control, Volume 92, August 2020, pages 185-201.
Dr. Philipp Köhler, a former PhD student of Prof. Frank Allgöwer, has received the Kyb-Alumni Prize for the best doctoral thesis in Cybernetics in the period from 01.04.2020 to 31.03.2022. The title of his thesis is "Distributed economic model predictive control: cost-efficient operation of interconnected systems". The prize was awarded at the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the study program Engineering Cybernetics.
Dr. Julian Berberich, as well as former IST-members Dr. Johannes Köhler (ETH Zürich) and Prof. Matthias Müller (Leibniz University Hannover) together with Prof. Frank Allgöwer have received the 2022 IEEE CSS George S. Axelby Outstanding Paper Award. Their paper is entitled "Data-driven model predictive control with stability and robustness guarantees".
Dr. Anne Koch has been awarded the IVS-Award for her dissertation "Determining input-output properties of linear time-invariant systems from data" written under the supervision of Prof. Frank Allgöwer.
Dr.-Ing. Julian Berberich has been selected as a new GAMM Junior by the Association of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (GAMM).
Dr.-Ing. Johannes Köhler, former IST-member, has been awarded the 2021 European Systems & Control PhD Thesis Award for his dissertation "Analysis and design of MPC frameworks for dynamic operation of nonlinear constrained systems", written under the supervision of Prof. Frank Allgöwer at the Institute for Systems Theory and Automatic Control. The award has been conferred at the annual European Control Conference 2022 that took place in London. The EECI PhD Award is granted annually in recognition of the best PhD thesis in Europe in the field of Systems & Control. It is the fourth time that the award goes to one of the former PhD students supervised by Prof. Frank Allgöwer. It makes the University of Stuttgart the only research institution in Europe that has received this award more than twice.
Every year, the University of Stuttgart awards prizes for the best publications from each of the ten faculties. This year the winning publication of the Faculty 7 is the journal paper "Robust and optimal predictive control of the COVID-19 outbreak" by Johannes Köhler, Lukas Schwenkel, Anne Koch, Julian Berberich, Patricia Pauli and Frank Allgöwer.
The former IST-member Dr. Ulrich Muenz of Siemens Technology received the prestigious "Inventor of the Year 2021" award of Siemens AG for his algorithms that are able to automatically stabilize power grids with a very high share of renewables.
For the fourth year in a row, the University of Stuttgart awarded prizes for the best publications from each of the ten faculties. This year, 2021, the best publications of the year 2019 were selected. The IFAC Young Author Prize (YAP) for the best paper at the 16th IFAC Symposium on Control in Transportation Systems (CTS'21) has been awarded to Raffaele Soloperto.
Sebastian Schlor was awarded the Dr. Artur-Fischer-Foundation Prize 2021 for his master thesis with the title "Event-triggered Learning and Model Predictive Control" in the category "Prize of the Fischer group of companies". The thesis has been conducted at the Intelligent Control Systems Group (ICS) of the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems.
Johannes Köhler became one of three finalists of the IFAC Young Author Award at the 7th IFAC Conference on Nonlinear Model Predictive Control 2021. The paper title is " Stability and Performance in MPC Using a Finite-Tail Cost" by Johannes Köhler and Prof. Frank Allgöwer. The Young Author Award is for the best paper by an author who, upon the date of submission of the paper, is a PhD student.
Outstanding Student Paper awarded to Julian Berberich for his paper "Robust Constraint Satisfaction in Data-Driven MPCPaper" in collaboration with Johannes Köhler, Matthias A. Müller and Frank Allgöwer at the CDC Conference IEEE CSS Awards, December 2020.
In November 2020, the Kyb Alumni prize has been awarded to Dennis Gramlich and Sebastian Schlor for their Master Theses.
Michael Hertneck was awarded the IVS-Award 2019 for his master thesis "Nonlinear Periodic Event-Triggered Control Based on Non-Monotonic Lyapunov Functions".
