Information for incoming students

You want to study as an exchange student at the IST? - Welcome!

The everyday-language at the IST is English. However, it is recommended that exchange students acquire some knowledge of German before and during their stay in Stuttgart - not the least for social reasons.

The institute is responsible for research and teaching activities in the areas of systems theory, control engineering and systems biology for students in the study fields Engineering Cybernetics, Process Engineering, and partly for Mechanical Engineering.

Students are welcome to work on a project in any of our research areas. All projects can be done either in English or in German.

As an exchange student, you can choose courses within all study programs of the University of Stuttgart. Note that most of the lectures are given in German.

Here is an overview of the lectures given in English at the IST:

For additional lectures in systems theory and control engineering, you can also have a look at the Institute for Nonlinear Mechanics and the Institute for System Dynamics.

General information for incoming students at the University of Stuttgart are provided by the International Office. If you have any further questions, you can also contact us via e-mail.
